Boxing Training For All
If it’s your first time, come along ten minutes before any of the classes all classes are suitable for beginners or advance. One of club’s coaches will show you the boxing club, help you put on your bandages/hand wraps (to support your wrists under your boxing gloves), take you through some basic moves and so on. Newcomers tell me that they find this introduction very helpful.
When attending you will need boxing wraps you can purchase from reception at a cost of £6. If you wish to participate in sparring you will need a gumshield at a cost of £5 from reception. Everything else you can borrow from us.
If you’re not new to boxing and don’t feel you need the basics over again, just show up for the timetabled start of your chosen class.
When the session starts we’ll pair you with someone else – possibly another newcomer, possibly an old hand – for a bit of technical practice. I demonstrate some (generally fairly simple) combinations of punches, then you have a go yourself, with your partner, aiming at their gloves rather than at their body.
Once we’ve warmed up (this takes about 20 minutes) we do what you might call a boxing circuit, in pairs, in 3-minute rounds, with a minute’s break between rounds. The circuit includes skipping, shadow boxing, sit-ups with a medicine ball, punching pads and bags, floor to ceiling uppercut bags and of course sparring in the ring (Optional) some of our members do body sparring and some do full head and body.
After about an hour, when everyone is worn out and there is sweat dripping from the ceiling, we do a final burst of cardio floor work (scissor jumps, squat thrusts, press ups, abb work and so on) and then stretch out.
“Boxing Training For All” is where the idea for Left Hook came about. We wanted to make boxing enjoyable to everyone, no matter what your experience. Boxing has been enjoyed all around the world for many years and was even a popular spectator sport in Ancient Rome. Left Hook Boxing Gym wanted to bring the excitement and enjoyment of boxing including all its health benefits, to anyone who wanted to give it a try. Whether you are a complete beginner or have experience, you’ll fit right in at Left Hook and our friendly, qualified coaches will make you feel welcome. All our Left Hook classes are mixed, we welcome both men and women of all levels.
Left Hook “Boxing training for all” classes are never quite the same, with our team of friendly qualified coaches you’ll be leaning new techniques all the time. A class will often start with technical drills, working both offensive and defensive skills. You’ll then enjoy various exercises including skipping, shadow boxing, pad work, bag work, sparring and more. A class will end with a cardio/core circuit which will help improve core strength, aerobic and anaerobic fitness, followed by a stretch to relax those muscles you’ve worked.
We look forward to seeing you soon and remember, this is boxing training for EVERYONE . What are you waiting for?
